Il y a incontestablement un style Mucha, indentifiable entre tous et beaucoup imité depuis la fin du xix e siècle. Celui qui fut l’un des princes de l’Art nouveau accéda à la célébrité en dessinant l’affiche de la pièce de théâtre Gismonda, où il sublimait Sarah Bernhardt. L’affichiste tchèque se révéla par la suite très prolifique, affinant son univers graphique qu’il étendit à des domaines aussi divers que l’architecture d’intérieur, la décoration ou la cosmétique. L’exposition du Luxembourg vient à point nommé pour prolonger l’été grâce à l’inventivité solaire de celui qui fut aussi un visionnaire concerné par les soubresauts politiques du monde. This prince of Art Nouveau first gained fame with his poster for the play Gismonda, starring Sarah Bernhardt. The prolific Czech artist progressively refined his graphic interpretations, venturing into interior design, decoration, even cosmetics.
