[The Guide] île-de-france & OISE amusement parks Parc Astérix If you’re visiting the French capital with your family you are most likely going to be itching to get to the Eiffel Tower and quickly after that the children will be begging you to get to an amusement park to run around and enjoy the rides. For this sunny season request we bring you a round-up of our favourite parks around the greater Paris region. Family Fun T hey are two of the most popular cartoon characters in the world and the legendary duo Astérix and Obelix are waiting for you at Parc Astérix. The amusement park, built like a Gallic village is where you can discover 6 exotic worlds, including Ancient Greece, Egypt and the Roman Empire, with every “world” taking you on thrilling rides such as the exciting OzIris rollercoaster in Egypt. Over at La Mer de Sable more adventures await. Here you can test your driving skills on sand dunes with quads and mini-quads and for the young children pony rides await. Meanwhile, if you and your family prefer more action-seeking activities then you must give Grimp à l’Arb a visit. Located in the Forest of Compiègne, this park is a huge obstacle course testing your physical strength with suspended bridges to cross and trees to climb. For a more subdued day out with the children Parc Saint Paul makes for a great destination for youngsters who love being outside. Set on 15 hectares, the park boasts 39 attractions including Le Wild Train rollercoaster and the Formula 1 rollercoaster, which invites you to choose your favourite car to twirl around in. the park also features water gardens and plenty of inviting By Sandra Iskander greenery to picnic around. If your family is more of the competitive type and love running around and winning we definitely recommend Sherwood Parc. On 3 hectares of land in the middle of a forest you can take part in games of paintball and laserball. Targeting your opponents with paint or laser beams the amusement becomes your war zone. The park also features a Robin Hood obstacle course complete with suspended netted bridges to cross. Another great park to visit if you love getting physical is Aventure Land. Here obstacle courses have been set up in the great outdoors as well as trampolines, go-karts and mini golf. The park also features pony rides for the docile visitors and laserball for adrenalin lovers. Xtrem Aventures is also an adrenalin junkie’s haven with the great outdoors doubling up as your boot camp with zip-lining the main attraction. If you’re travelling with very young children Herouval should be your park of choice. Boasting 20 hectares of land, the park is ideal for a relaxing day out in the sun and suitable activities for children under 10. Mini golf, beach volley and water walking balls, allowing you to roll around in a giant water ball, are only some of the fun activities waiting for you. Meanwhile, over at Parc Saint Léger, also known as Parc des Grands Félins (Large Felines Park), is where cat lovers can see their favourite animal up close and personal and in all their glorious sizes.
