[Insider'sGuide] Entre nous Cocktail Hour in the French Capital P aris is all about seeing and being seen in all the right places and nothing is more important when the sun sets than being at the right bar for the right atmosphere and perfectly mixed cocktail. The city has recently seen the return of some of the hottest bars and some very new ones, so sit back and let us take you to the best addresses in town for great cocktails. The iconic Plaza Athénée Bar is a cocktail dream. Almost like walking into an art sculpture, the space features a transparent bar with cloud-like forms floating within an indigo blue ceiling of fabric resembling a satin sheet floating sexily above. While you enjoy your cocktail from a luxurious crystal glass that comes in three different sizes, small, medium and large, you can also take in the hottest crowd in the city, which includes A-list jetsetters from around the fashionable globe. The French capital’s latest speakeasy bar to open its well-hidden doors is La Mezcaleria. The underground bar is found by making your way through 1K Hotel’s kitchens and entering into a South-American inspired décor complete with intimidating masks and religious icons. The original ambiance is an ideal address for a fun night out with friends in the very fashionable Marais district. And if you enjoy original cocktails then you will be spoilt for choice with the “elixir of the gods” cocktail menu featuring drinks made with Mezcal, an alcoholic drink from Mexico made by fermenting and distilling agave juice. The Andy Wahloo bar has undergone a makeover and it is better than ever. The décor, given a complete overhaul, is now sleeker with 16 Greater Paris | SPRING - PRINTEMPS 2015 a sophisticated air of the 30s, making it a perfect spot to enjoy a cocktail with drinks before or after dinner. Tucked discretely in a small street in the trendy 3 rd arrondissement, the bar offers an impressive drinks menu, which features almost 100 different whiskies. If after a couple of drinks you get a little bit hungry, the bar offers a menu with dishes ranging from a simple Caesar salad to the more luxe Kristal caviar. Club Rayé is the city’s new piano bar where you can enjoy jazz music and a great selection of wines and cocktails. Found in the fashionable 2 nd arrondissement of the city, the club is housed in what was once a convent and then later a brothel. Inspired by New York bars, Club Rayé, which translates to Striped Club, features a décor of cool black and white stripes and serves classic cocktails such as Manhattan and Bloody Mary and a snacking menu with American and French classics including Pigs in Blankets and a charcuterie platter. Club Rayé also hides the Kafka Bar, a private bar within a bar and is discreetly found within the 13 th century walls of the building’s cellar, the only thing remaining from the convent. Made up of five separate spaces, which include two private rooms, the Kafka Bar is a sexy clandestine address for tourists in Paris. W Hotels around the world are well-known for their fabulous bars, where everyone who is anyone wants to be seen, looking amazing and with a cocktail in hand. Now W Paris has opened its own sizzling hot bar, Brûlé (burnt), and it is everything you would expect from a W bar, cool and with an air of exclusivity. With its own private access, Brûlé welcomes you into a predominately black space with pops of colour By Sandra Iskander Brûlé coming through around the bar thanks to the street art-inspired décor, with street artist Yué Wu tapping into the famous Belle Epoque parties to create the colourful backdrop. ■ Plaza Athénée Bar, 25 ave Montaigne (8 th ), 01 53 67 66 00 La Mezcaleria, Open Thurs to Sat from 8.30pm to 2am, 13 blvd du Temple (3 rd ), 01 42 71 20 00 Andy Wahloo, Tues to Sat, 6pm to 2am, 69 rue des Gravilliers (3 rd ), 01 42 71 20 38 Club Rayé, Tues to Sat, 6pm to 1am, 26 rue Dussoubs (2 nd ), 01 40 13 72 93 Brûlé, Thurs to Sat, 7pm to 3am, 2 rue Meyerbeer (9 th ), 01 77 48 94 94 Photos de haut en bas, de gauche à droite: Plaza Athénée Bar © Eric Laignel Plaza Athénée Bar
