Bérénice est une James Bond girl complexe, qui fait tourner la tête du plus charismatique des agents secrets dans le dernier épisode de la saga britannique. Si ce nom d’origine franco-cambodgienne est aujourd’hui sur toutes les lèvres, la pulpeuse Bérénice était encore, il y a quelques mois, une inconnue dont le CV ne comprenait que de petits rôles à la télévision et deux apparitions au cinéma dans L’art de séduire et Un bonheur n’arrive jamais seul. Alors comment s’est-elle retrouvée au casting du long-métrage le plus attendu de l’année ? En forçant le destin. « Quand j’ai appris qu’ils cherchaient une Française pour le nouveau James Bond, j’ai contacté toutes les personnes impliquées dans le film, via les réseaux sociaux, des producteurs aux techniciens. J’ai finalement trouvé le mail de la directrice de casting qui a aimé ma performance et m’a testée sur deux scènes de Skyfall. » C’est ensuite, le réalisateur Sam Mendes qu’il a fallu convaincre, avant de passer un troisième casting face à Daniel Craig. Tout le monde est tombé sous le charme. Bérénice est devenue Séverine, la 7e Française à charmer 007, après Carole Bouquet, Sophie Marceau ou Eva Green.

À l’affiche de Skyfall, le 23e volet des aventures de 007, la ténébreuse Bérénice Marlohe est une actrice de caractère, qui prouve que les Frenchies ont toujours la cote auprès de Mister Bond. -/ The sultry lady who plays in Skyfall, the 23rd Bond film, is an actress with character who provesthe French fair sex is stilla favourite with 007.
-/ Envied by women, desired by men, Bérénice Marlohe plays the complex James Bond girl whom the most charismatic of secret agents falls for in the British film franchise’s latest offering. Right now her FrancoCambodian name is on everyone’s lips, but only a Jew months back the luscious Bérénice was stillan unknown whose CV listed little morethan minor TV roles and two bigscreen appearances, in L’art de séduire and Un bonheur n’arrive jamais seul. So how did she find herself in the cast of this year’s most eagerly awaited film ? By giving fate a helping hand. “When I heard they were looking for a French actress for the next Bond film, I contacted everyone involved in it, from the producers to thetechnicians, via social networking sites. Finally I found the email address of the casting director, who liked my acting and tried me out in two Skyfall scenes.” Then director Sam Mendes had to be convinced and finally came a third try out with Daniel Craig himself. Everyone was charmed by her, so Bérénice became Séverine, the seventh French beauty to seduce 007, following in the footsteps of Carole Bouquet, Sophie Marceau and Eva Green.

Mystery and seduction
Sam Mendes was looking for an actress “with all the classic attributes of a James Bond girl : sultry, sexy, ultra-feminine, mysterious, and entirely womanly, not a young girl”. To get under her character’s skin, the actress drew on her dark side : “I wanted Séverineto be hard to make out, not in any way a stereotype, and with a very enigmatic side. Daniel Craig has brought something special to James Bond, he’s strong yet vulnerable and we don’t always know what’s in his mind. I wanted Séverineto be likethat too.” This year the famous secret agent celebrates his 50th year, so in Skyfall Daniel Craig is backed up by such talented actors as Judi Dench, Ralph Fiennes and Javier Bardem. Bérénice could scarcely do better for her first big role ! But the 33year-old actress has her Jeet firmly on the ground. “I didn’t arrive on the set by magic. I worked hard for a long timeto get there.” Further wellearned recognition is the fact she is now a “face” of Omega, so in this latest film our James is no longer the only one wearing a Swiss watch, on his co-actress’s wrist is an Omega De Ville Prestige. Bérénice Marlohe has proved that pluck and determination always pay off in the end.

Mystères et séduction
Sam Mendes recherchait une actrice « qui possèdetous les attributs classiques d’une James Bond girl : voluptueuse, sexy, hyperféminine, mystérieuse et, à la fois, une Jemme accomplie et non une jeune fille. » Alors pour se glisser dans la peau du personnage, la comédienne a puisé dans son côté sombre : « Je l’ai voulue difficile à cerner, hors detout stéréotype, avec un côté très énigmatique. Daniel Craig a apporté quelque chose de spécial à James Bond. Il est à la fois fort et vulnérable et l’on ne sait pas toujours ce qu’il a en tête. J’ai voulu la même chose pour Séverine. » Cette année, l’agent secret célèbre ses 50 ans. Skyfall réunit autour de Daniel Craig des acteurs aussi talentueux que Judi Dench, Ralph Fiennes ou Javier Bardem… Pour un premier grand rôle, difficile de faire mieux. Mais la trentenaire garde les pieds sur terre : « Je ne suis pas arrivée sur le plateau d’un coup de baguette magique. La route a été longue avant d’y parvenir. » Autre consécration, Bérénice prête son image à la maison Omega. Dans le film, James n’est plus le seul à porter une montre suisse, sa partenaire féminine aune Omega De Ville Prestige au poignet. Bérénice Marlohe prouve qu’avoir du cran et de l’obstination finit toujours par payer.
