irecteur artistique enthousiaste, Laurent Trémeau a quitté Nancy pour terminer ses études de cinéma à l’ESRA de Nice. Il n’est jamais reparti. Avec trois amis, il fonde Héliotrope en 1997. Centrée sur la diffusion et la promotion de films, l’association lance, en 2000, Un Jestival c’est trop court, dédié au courtmétrage, un cinéma «  peu montré, indépendant ». Puis ils ont ajouté un autre volet à leurs activités avec l’éducation à l’image, menée de l’école élémentaire au lycée. «  Avec les jeunes, Héliotrope réalise 6 à 10 films par an » et aiguise ainsi le regard de ces futurs – espérons-le – cinéphiles. «  La transmission est le cœur de notretravail », souligne Laurent. Mais pas seulement, puisque dans le cadre du Jestival, il vient de produire un film tourné sur le port de Nice. À contre-courant, c’est son titre, fait partie des 26 projets reçus à l’occasion du concours de scénarios clôturé en février. Coécrit par la scénariste Émilie Couvert et le réalisateur Stéphane Coda, il a été réalisé en juin, avec l’appui technique et financier d’Héliotrope et de nombreux partenaires locaux. Une belle façon de poursuivre l’aventure cinématographique de Nice, dont les studios mythiques ne demandent qu’à revivre, et de «  faire découvrir au grand public l’incroyable diversité de ces films, de 1… à 59 minutes » !

-/ Laurent Trémeau is an enthusiastic artistic director who left Nancy to come and finish his cinema studies at the ESRA in Nice. And he’s been here ever since ! In 1997, he and three friends set up the Héliotrope association for distributing and promoting films, which in 2000 started an annual Jestival of short films, an “independent and rarely screened” cinema, called Un Festival C’est Trop Court. They then extended their activitiesto includeteaching primary and secondary school pupils the rudiments of film making. “With these young people Héliotrope makes six to 10 films a year”, sharpening their eye and hopefully encouraging them to love cinema. “Passing on our knowledge and passion is the most important aspect of our work,” Laurent emphasises. But not the only one. Recently he produced a film for the Jestival. A contre-courant (Against the Tide), filmed in Nice harbour, is one of the 26 projects accepted by the screenplay competition that closed last February. Co-written by scriptwriter Emilie Couvert and director Stéphane Coda, it was filmed in Junethanks to technical and financial help from Héliotrope and a number of local partners. A fine way to keep film-making alive in Nice's longrevered studios, and of "showing the public how incredibly diverse short films are".
