Éric Ivaldi est né à Toulon le 14 décembre 1963. Il passe sa jeunesse à Saint- Tropez. Artiste peintre à ses débuts, il étudie les Arts plastiques et autres. Aujourd’hui artiste photographe, il a su faire l’alchimie entre ces deux univers. C’est ce qui donne ce rendu si original à ses œuvres et commence à s’exporter à travers le monde. Son art fait preuve d’une grande ouverture car il peut tout aussi bien se rapprocher de la peinture, mais également travailler sur commande pour des professionnels ou des particuliers, et ce dans des styles bien différents. C’est à Paris, dans le 17 e où il vit et travaille sur ses toiles, qu’Eric Ivaldi s’exprime. Il fréquente les lieux branchés de la capitale et vend son travail en circuit fermé, dans son salon où il expose ses œuvres avec humour. En 1994, Eric Ivaldi vit à Monaco où il rencontre une clientèle internationale. En 2004, installé à Nice, il décide de travailler sur le rendu de la photographie. En effet, depuis une trentaine d’années, la pratique de la photographie s’est rapprochée du milieu des arts plastiques. Il s’interroge sur les effets de la multiplication des images due aux mass média, sur notre interprétation du réel et nos comportements. Il cherche à faire des photographies qui aient valeur de tableaux et qui proposent des représentations plutôt que des reproductions. Eric Ivaldi en quelques dates 2007 : un cabinet d’architecture et de décoration passe commande de tirages photos (Série Urbaine). 2008 : l’association FIGHT AIDS MONACO choisit une photo intitulée Fenêtre sur New York. 2009 : l’association FIGHT AIDS MONACO porte son choix sur une photo de la série Urbaine. Février 2010 : sous le parrainage de l’association FIGHT AIDS MONACO, exposition de la série Urbaine à Saint-Paul-de-Vence. Mars 2010 : commande de l’atelier 402 pour une pièce de théâtre sur le thème du jazz, Sonny Blue de James Baldwin. Mai 2010 : exposition à l’hôtel Beau Rivage (Nice) de sa série Urbaine ; présentation nouvelle série French Riviera. Novembre 2011 : exposition de sa nouvelle série à Chicago. Initially a painter, he studied the plastic and other arts. Now a photographic artist, he has developed alchemy between the two worlds. This is what gives his work its highly original visual impact and is starting to make him known internationally. His art is immensely flexible since he can work equally well in a painterly mode or on commission for professional and private clients, in widely varying styles.It was when living and painting in Paris's 17th arrondissement that Eric Ivaldi began expressing himself. He frequented the capital's hip venues and sold his work confidentially in his living room, where he displayed his pieces amusingly. In 1994 Eric Ivaldi lived in Monaco where he met an international clientele. After moving to Nice, in 2004 he decided to work on photographic effects. For some 30 years now, the practice of photography has indeed been coming closer to that of the plastic arts. He explores the effects of the multiplication of images due to the mass media on our interpretation of reality and our behaviour. He seeks to create photographs that are on a par with paintings and offer depictions rather than reproductions. March 2010 : Atelier 402 commissioned him to work on a play about jazz, Sonny's Blues after James Baldwin.
