PORTRAIT 14 RDF Chaque galeriste a ses raisons d’ouvrir une galerie et souvent elles se ressemblent. Le cas de Romain Del Furia et Francisca Würz est au contraire tout à fait inédit, je dirais même, unique ! Romain et Francisca ont tous deux suivi le cursus complet des Beaux-Arts : Romain à la Villa Arson dont il est diplômé avec les félicitations du jury et Francisca à la Villa Arson pendant deux ans puis à l’UDK Berlin où elle est en passe d’obtenir son Master. Pourquoi alors, ne pas devenir peintre, sculpteur, vidéaste ou que sais-je encore, parmi les disciplines qu’on leur a enseignées, au lieu de se consacrer à promouvoir des artistes de leur génération ? Eh bien, parce que là est leur vocation ! Dès la troisième année d’études d’art ils ont, chacun de leur côté, organisé des expositions ou défendu le travail d’autres artistes ce que fait toujours Francisca Würz en représentant à Berlin l’artiste Saadane Afif. Cette concordance de points de vue les prédestinait sans doute, au-delà de leur amitié, à ouvrir ensemble une galerie et c’est Nice qu’ils ont choisie pour en faire la maison mère d’activités qu’ils projettent de développer dans des pays amis comme l’Allemagne, la Belgique, etc. Mais venons-en au vif du sujet. Ils sont jeunes, sympathiques et déjà très précis dans leur positionnement. Pourquoi Nice ? D’abord parce que tous deux sont nés ici, des Méridionaux donc, à part entière pour Del Furia, de moitié pour Würz dont la mère est allemande. Aussi parce qu’ils connaissent bien le tissu artistique local côtoyé durant leurs études et qu’ils veulent rapprocher de ce qui se fait à Berlin, Bruxelles et ailleurs. La dernière exposition rapprochait Xavier Mazzarol, un peintre français qui travaille à Berlin, Brent Wadden, un Canadien berlinois, Volker Seifried, un sculpteur allemand de l’artiste française Gaëlle Boucand et du peintre japonais Masami Takemoto. La RDF galerie a présenté pour son ouverture en avril 2008 David Ancelin, un artiste du Nord et la jeune vidéaste Marion Tampon-Lajariette, niçoise. En novembre, nous découvrirons les pièces récentes de Sandra D. Lecoq. Par Hélène Jourdan-Gassin Every gallerist has their reasons for opening an art gallery and these are often very similar. On the contrary, the case of Romain Del Furia and Francisca Würz is most unusual, in fact I’d say unique ! Romain and Francisca have both studied fine arts in depth, Romain at Villa Arson, from which he graduated with the jury’s commendations, and Francisca at Villa Arson for two years then at UDK in Berlin where she’s studying for her Masters degree. So why, instead of becoming painters, sculptors, video artists or whatever after learning about all those disciplines, are they devoting themselves to promoting artists of their own generation ? Well, because that’s their vocation ! Right from their third year of art studies, each, independently, started organising exhibitions and promoting the work of other artists ; Francisca Würz still does this in Berlin where she represents the artist Saadane Afif. Undoubtedly this concordance of viewpoints, in addition to friendship, predestined them to open a gallery together and they’ve chosen Nice as the headquarters for activities they intend to develop in other countries they know such as Germany and Belgium. But let’s get to the crux of the matter. These two are young, likeable and already very precise in their positioning. So why Nice ? To start with because they were both born here so are Southerners, Del Furia 100% and Würz 50% since her mother is German, but also because they’re wellacquainted with the local arts scene from having frequented it while studying and want to link itup with what is happening in Berlin, Brussels and elsewhere. The last exhibition brought together French painter Xavier Mazzarol who works in Berlin, Canadian Berliner Brent Wadden, German sculptor Volker Seifried, French artist Gaëlle Boucand and Japanese painter Masami Takemoto. For its opening in April this year the RDF gallery displayed the work of Northern artist David Ancelin and the young Nice video artist Marion Tampon-Lajariette. In November it will be showing recent works by Sandra D Lecoq.
