La réponse poétique de Jorge Cañete : travailler sur l’aile d’un oiseau, la plume, la légèreté. Un clin d’œil délicat à l’histoire du lieu. Ici, un voilage de lin blanc très vaporeux, ailleurs une installation de l’artiste Isa Barbier, un rideau de plumes au milieu de la pièce. Le moindre détail est étudié, chaque objet a été scrupuleusement chiné mais surtout chaque élément a su se faire une place dans l’espace. Aucun intrus. L’histoire du lieu est primordiale. Mais aussi l’univers du client, évidemment. Jorge commence son travail par un véritable questionnaire, façon portrait chinois : « Si vous étiez une ville ? Si vous étiez un livre ? » Une manière habile de mieux connaître son interlocuteur, plus subtile qu’un simple « quel est votre style ? », souvent intimidant. Pour finir, un zest de poésie et d’équilibre. Jorge ne s’intéresse que peu aux tendances qu’il juge éphémères. Son travail semble hors du temps. Le décorateur est encore jeune dans le métier. Il a travaillé longtemps dans le marketing de luxe avant de changer de voie. Aujourd’hui, la « profession » le reconnaît : il figure pour la troisième année consécutive dans le livre d’Andrew Martin Interior Design Review, la bible des meilleurs designers du moment. Pour fêter cette sélection, Jorge Cañete organise à chaque fois une exposition avec un artiste. Une rencontre qui permet d’affirmer les ponts entres les différentes disciplines. Jorge Canete’s response: a poetic interpretation based on a core concept – a bird’s wing, feathers, a sense of lightness. A subtle nod to the history of the building. A filmy white linen curtain here, an installation by artist Isa Barbier there: a curtain of feathers in the middle of the room. Every detail is carefully selected, each object has been scrupulously tracked down. Above all, each element finds its proper place in the space created. No intruders here. The history of the setting is of key importance – along with the client’s personal history, (needless to say), their private world. Jorge begins by drawingup a revealing client questionnaire: ‘If you were a city, which city would you be ? And if you were a book… ?’It’s a clever way of getting to know you better, subtler than the more straightforward (but potentially intimidating) question ‘What’s your style ?’And to finish, a touch of poetry, harmony and balance. Jorge pays little attention to design trends, distrusting their ephemeral nature. His is a timeless approach. Canete is a relative newcomer to the business, taking a change of direction after a long career in the luxury marketing sector. But the profession has welcomedhim in: for the third year running, he has featured in Andrew Martin’s book Interior Design Review, the Bible of the top names in contemporary design.
