Eugeni Quitllet est un boulimique de travail, une boîte à idées en perpétuelle activité. Dès 2007, il est le premier et le seul à co-signer des pièces avec Starck « Starck with Quitllet » « J’imagine que peu avant moi avait créé autant de pièces. » Aujourd’hui, il compte un bon nombre de best-sellers - mobilier et objets divers - édités par les plus célèbres compagnies (Kartell, Dedon, Driade, Flos…). Parmi les plus connues, la chaise Masters pour Kartell ou la montre O-Ring pour Fossilet. Depuis toujours, il conserve une excitation presque enfantine dans son processus de création. « Avec Philippe Starck, pas besoin de se parler, on se comprend naturellement. » Aujourd’hui, Eugeni ne fait plus de projet d’architecture. « Ca me manque, j’aime beaucoup l’architecture aussi mais ça ne va pas assez vite. Ce que j’aime dans la réalisation d’un objet, c’est qu’on peut faire ça n’importe où, on n’a pas besoin d’une base. L’architecture nécessite un emplacement ou un bâtiment, c’est plus contraignant ! » -/'He was very nice – he listened to what I had to say, and gave me some holiday homework !'A week later, the motivated young man returned with a stack of designs in his satchel. In September, he started work with the Starck agency. Eugeni Quitllet is a workaholic, an effervescent'box of ideas'on legs ! In 2007, he became the first and only designer to co-sign a series of pieces with Philippe Starck:'Starck with Quitllet'.'I guess few designers before me had comeup with so many ideas', he says. Today, his collection includes a number of best-sellers – furniture and objects alike – issued by some of the big names in the business: Kartell, Dedon, Driade, Flos… Kartell's Masters chair, or Fossilet's O-Ring are among some of the best-known. And as ever, he takes an almost childlike delight in his own creative processes :'With Philippe Starck, there's no need to talk, we communicate and understand each other intuitively.'Nowadays, Eugeni no longer works on architectural projects:'I missit,'he says.'I love architecture, but it doesn't happen fast enough for me. What I like is seeing a piece through from start to finish, which you can do anywhere: you don't need a permanent base, whereas ardhitectural design demands a setting, or a building.
