BEAUTÉ URBAN 220 URBAN Le Cube, une œuvre inachevée qui ne fait que commencer… -/Le Cube – an unfinished work that’s only just begun… Le nouveau Spa by Valmont de Taipei présentera l’esquisse d’une série de cubes d’Isao, la première création d’un enchaînement d’œuvres sur le même thème par différents artistes. Didier Guillon, Président du Groupe Valmont, a demandé à l’artiste catalan Isao de créer une fresque murale sur le thème du cube. Sa particularité ? Il s’agit d’une œuvre conçue par étapes… Chaque année Isao produira un seul cube, l’œuvre sera donc en constante transformation pendant 9 ans, ce qui permettra de surprendre le spectateur. « Le thème de l'inachevé, en référence à Gaudi, l'ingénieux architecte de la Sagrada Familia, est propice à toutes sortes d'inspirations. Par définition, cette thématique conduit à des rebondissements inattendus et une conclusion inconnue de l'artiste lui-même », dixit Didier Guillon. Isao, de mère japonaise, avait étudié la calligraphie japonaise au Japon, et cette œuvre suppose un retour à ses origines. Les plaques de céramiques blanc mat contrastent avec les cubes tracés en vernis noir ; rappellent des Kanjis qui seraient tout juste calligraphiés. Le tout est cuit à 1280°C dans les fours de la Fondation Artigas, connue de tous les céramistes du XXe au XXIe siècle, où des artistes comme Picasso ou Miró ont collaboré. « C'est une boîte, une sculpture, un 3D aplatie qui devient un dessin. La couleur ne trouve pas sa place. Je la décompose en une série, une succession d'images, noir sur blanc, qui deviennent des signes, une calligraphie, des Kanjis, de la poésie. Les mathématiques deviennent Haiku. (…) Documents, gravures, sculptures, une installation et une fresque en céramique qui commence mais ne finit jamais. Un voyage de 9 ans, 9 cubes, avant de passer le flambeau. Unusually, the work will be conceived in stages: each year, Isao will produce a single cube, with the piece as a whole evolving over a nine-year period, incorporating new and surprising elements. ‘The theme of « unfinishedness » – with a nod to Gaudi, the architect of Barcelona’s incomplete cathedral of the Sagrada Familia – is a rich source of inspiration, provoking unexpected twist and turns, and leading to a conclusion as yet unimagined by the artist himself,’says Guillon. Isao, whose mother was Japanese, studied calligraphy in Japan. The present work marks a return to his Oriental roots. Matt white ceramic plaques stand in stark contrast to the black varnished cubes, reminiscent of Japanese kanji letters. The ensemble is fired at 1280°C in the kilns at the Artigas Foundation – a major centre for 20th and 21st-century ceramics that has collaborated with great artists like Picasso and Miro. In the words of the artist himself: ‘It’s a box, a sculpture, a flattened-out 3D formthat becomes a drawing. Colour has no place here. I have broken it down into a series, a succession of images, black on white, which become signs, calligraphic motifs, kanjis, poetry.
