COTE MEETS A TRULY COMMITTED SPORTSMAN. Fils de handballeurs, Jérôme Fernandez a grandi dans les gymnases. La passion de ce sport étant contagieuse, il a commencé, très tôt, à jouer et à partager ses valeurs mêlant engagement, solidarité, respect et amitié. A 15 ans, il décide de franchir une étape supérieure et devient joueur professionnel. Cinq ans plus tard, il réalise le rêve de tout sportif en intégrant l’équipe de France avec laquelle il a tout gagné (titre olympique en 2008, championnat du Monde en 2009 et championnat d’Europe en 2010). Actuellement, Jérôme Fernandez poursuit sa carrière internationale en Allemagne au THW Kiel, club de référence en Europe et tenant du titre de la ligue des Champions. Son engagement pour Action Innocence date de sa rencontre avec Madame Valérie Wertheimer, fondatrice et présidente d’Action Innocence. Le champion de handballa eu un véritable coup de cœur pour les valeurs que défend l'association qui sont identiques à celles véhiculées par le handball. Le fait de devenir père l’a également poussé à s’investir dans le combat mené par Action Innocence. En effet, il est important pour cet homme au grand coeur que les enfants puissent grandir dans un environnement sécurisé et soient protégés des déviances de prédateurs sur Internet. Aujourd’hui, il tente, comme ambassadeur, de faire connaître l’association au plus grand nombre et de sensibiliser les enfants à cette problématique lors d’événements sportifs ou culturels. Both of Jérôme Fernandez’s parents were handball players. As he says, he grewup in a gym ! Handball is an infectious sport, and Jérôme soon began to play, discovering its distinctive brand of commitment, solidarity, respect and camaraderie. At age 15, he took the decision to turn professional. Five years later, he achieved every sportsman’s dream, joining his national (French) team and leading them to a string of victories (the Olympic title in 2008, the world championship in 2009 and the European championship in 2010). Today, Jérôme Fernandez is pursuing an international career in Germany, with Europe’s top club – THW Kiel, the current title-holders in the Champions League. Fernandez’s commitment to Action Innocence began when he met the charity’s founder and president, Valérie Wertheimer. The handball champion identified strongly with the organisation’s core values, so closely matched to those of his own sport. Becoming a father encouraged him to get involved in Action Innocence’s work. Jérôme believes passionately that children should be free to growup in a safe environment, protected from deviant Internet predators. Today, as ambassador for the organization, he is actively involved in raising awareness of their work with the widest possible audience, using sporting and cultural events to teach children about safe surfing and steering clear of the dangers of the Internet.
